The Illinois Leadership Center provides informative workshops for enrolled participants at significant points throughout the Certificate Program.
All workshops are held in the Illinois Leadership Center conference room (290 Illini Union) unless otherwise noted.
Registration is required to attend workshops. To register, login to our website and choose the 'Workshops' option. Choose your desired workshop via the 'Workshop Registration' link on the top right.
The Orientation Workshop is mandatory for all new Certificate students and must be completed within your first semester in the program before you can submit your Statement of Intent. If you are unable to attend one of the Orientation Workshops above, please contact the Illinois Leadership Center.
The Certificate Orientation Workshop is designed to introduce you to the Program and will include a review of general requirements and stages to complete the Leadership Certificate. Attendance at a Certificate Orientation Session is required for students before they are able to submit their Statement of Intent and be paired with a Leadership Coach. Until this requirement has been satisfied, leadership courses and team experiences will not count towards fulfilling requirements within the Program.
Creating a Personal Development Plan (PDP) is the first step in working towards completing your Leadership Certificate. The PDP document serves as the blueprint for students in fulfilling the Program requirements. Attendance at this Workshop is optional, but is strongly encouraged, especially for new Certificate students.
This is a new and improved workshop to help students who are interested in completing the Certificate Program this year. This session covers general information about creating and submitting a Portfolio and the entire completion process, including the requirements, types of Portfolios/E-Portfolios, and important deadlines.
Selecting and working with a Leadership Coach is a foundational part of the student experience in the Certificate Program. Leadership Coaches are professionals (e.g. campus faculty and staff, alumni, and other community members and professionals) who volunteer their type to support students through the successful completion of the Certificate Program.
Before Certificate students can begin working with a Leadership Coach, they must:
Once you enroll, you will be paired with a Leadership Coach. You have the option of recruiting your own coach to work with or you can wait for Leadership Center staff to pair you with an available coach in the program.
If you have someone in mind, feel free to approach them about the program and your interest in having them coach you. You can let them know that serving as a Certificate Coach takes approximately 5-10 hours per semester and you may also want to print out or forward to them our coach manual that outlines the responsibilities of a coach and more about the Certificate Program. After someone has agreed to be your coach, please email the Leadership Certificate staff coordinator their name, affiliation, and contact information.
If you would like the Leadership Center staff to pair you with an available coach, please include any coaching preferences (i.e. specific field, gender, age, etc.) in your Statement of Intent. Preferences are strongly considered but cannot be guaranteed.
We are
always looking for new Coaches to pair with with Certificate students. If you have any professors, advisors, staff members,
or other professionals on campus or in the community that you would recommend,
please let us know!
