Requirements and Expectations

The Certificate program is structured for participants to be able to complete in a 3-4 semesters. Participants are expected to take initiative to meet the program requirements, with the support of the Illinois Leadership Center. Please download the current important dates and timeline for this academic year.

To earn an Illinois Leadership Certificate, students must:

  1. Register and attend an Orientation Workshop

  2. Submit a Statement of Intent by the enrollment deadline

  3. Meet regularly with a paired Leadership Coach (3-4 times per semester)

  4. Submit a Personal Development Plan (PDP)

  5. Attend 4 leadership programs

    • Programs must be longer than 5 hours
    • At least 3 of the programs must be Illinois Leadership Center i-programs
  6. Complete 2 leadership courses

    • 1 course must focus on a leadership skill or theory
    • 1 course must focus on leadership application or practice
  7. Participate in 2 non-classroom team experiences

    • Includes athletic teams, research groups, registered student organizations, etc
  8. Create a Leadership Portfolio which documents your leadership growth

  9. Submit a completion form, approved by your Leadership Coach
